Patrick Swayze battles cancer

Hollywood actor Patrick Swayze is facing the battle of his life after being diagnosed the most deadly forms of cancer, but the determined star has bravely vowed to keep working during the battle.

His doctor last night confirmed the Dirty Dancing and Ghost star was being treated for pancreatic cancer, but denied claims that the 55-year-old had just five weeks left to live.

His spokesperson Annett Wolf said: "Patrick is continuing his normal schedule during this time, which includes working on upcoming projects.”

The industry has rallied around him, with his former Red Dawn co-star Lea Thompson saying: “I've know him for so long, he's a great guy and I love him so much.

“He will be resilient – us dancers are tough!”

American cable channel A&E are considering commissioning a TV pilot, called The Beast, which stars the actor.

In a statement, to People magazine, the network said the show is "in contention to become one of the new drama series on the network.”

“However, at this time all of our thoughts are solely with Patrick and his family. We are all wishing for a speedy recovery to a truly gifted actor."

Sufferers of pancreatic cancer typically have a survival rate of less than five per cent.

Patients diagnosed with the most common form of pancreatic cancer rarely survive. However there are other rarer forms which patients can recover from if it is detected early enough and they receive surgery straight away.

It is very difficult to diagnose this type of cancer as the pancreas is so deep within the body and symptoms vary depending on the exact location of the tumour.

It is mainly a disease which affects middle-aged and older patients. There are around 7,000 new cases in the UK each year.

Italian singer Luciano Pavarotti died in September last year at the age of 71 after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

Doctors told the tenor he had the disease in July 2006, five months after his last performance.

He underwent five bouts of chemotherapy before doctors told him there was nothing else they could do to cure him.

Cheryl Coles weight has plummeted to six stone as she struggles to cope following her husband's alleged infidelity, it was reported today.

The Girls Aloud star is reportedly chain smoking and refusing to eat after fleeing to a luxury resort in Thailand following revelations that husband Ashley Cole cheated on her.

Fellow band mates Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh, who flew out to join Cheryl in Phuket, are said to be desperately worried about her.

A source told the Sun: "The realization that Ashley has betrayed her so badly suddenly hit Cheryl hard.

"She told her closest pals that he may as well have ripped her heart out and stamped on it.

"Ashley's cheating was so painful that, for two weeks, Cheryl practically locked herself in a rented apartment, sobbing herself to sleep.

"Cheryl couldn't eat and her weight plummeted so rapidly and significantly that her ribs and hip bones started to jut sharply out. Her cheeks also look sunken.

Referring to her husband, she is alleged to have told a friend: "He's damaged goods. I knew something was wrong when I confronted him about some woman and he made up some excuse rather than deny it outright."

Cheryl jetted abroad last week after reportedly smashing her mobile phone so her husband could not speak to her.

She has been chain smoking up to forty cigarettes a day, The Sun reported.

Cheryl, 24, is reportedly on the verge of divorcing the Chelsea and England defender following reports of his one night stand with hairdresser Aimee Walton.

Two other women came forward to claim that he had betrayed Cheryl on other occasions.

PETA sent Jamie and Lynne Spears a letter of concern about Britney. PETA believes that Britney's consumption of meat and dairy products is making her batshit crazy and want to help. "The letter suggests putting the suffering star on a vegan diet to help her get her emotional and physical health back to a place.

"In addition, the Royal College of Psychiatrists in the U.K. studied the relationship between mental disorders and the consumption of meat, dairy, and other animal products and concluded that "a higher national dietary intake of… dairy products predicted a worse two-year outcome of schizophrenia." They also concluded that a higher consumption of meat was linked to a worsening of schizophrenia, while consumption of beans—a vegetarian protein source—was linked to improvements. In addition, the Mental Health Sanctuary in Washington advises people with bipolar disorder to avoid dairy products.

While the medical link between mental illness and meat and dairy consumption is still evolving, there is no doubt that eating animal products is a major factor in causing other diseases, including the top killers in the U.S. According to the American Dietetic Association, vegetarians are less prone to heart disease, specific types of cancer, diabetes, and obesity than meat-eaters. While switching to a vegan diet might very well benefit Britney's mental health, it would undoubtedly benefit her physical health.

Details of the restraining order against Sam Lutmcgyver have surfaced and it paints a pretty ugly picture of what's been going down with Britney. Lynne Spears provided most of the information in the document and it contains allegations that Sam was drugging Britney. TMZ reports:

At one point Britney "picked up a bottle of pills and read part of the label and asked us, 'What does insomnia mean?' Sam told her that the pills will help her stay awake." Lynne continues, "Sam told Jackie and me that he grinds up Britney's pills, which were on the counter and included Risperdal (an anti-psychotic drug for schizophrenia and bipolarity) and Seroquel." The docs continue, "He told us that the doctor who is treating her now is trying to get her into a sleep-induced coma so that they could then give her drugs to heal her brain."

After downing the pills, Sam then tried to get Britney to do shots of tequila. He also told Britney that Adnan is gay and later threatened Lynne:

Lynne claims before leaving for the drug store that night, Sam gave her drugs upstairs "to make her more light-hearted, happy, and fun."
During a dispute later that night, Sam allegedly said, "If you try to get rid of me, she'll be dead and I'll piss on her grave."
Brit said, "Can I see another psychiatrist so I can see my babies?" Sam responded, "If I told you to take 10 pills a day, you should do what I tell you to see your babies."

At 3:31 p.m., a masseuse arrived at Apartment 5A in the building for an appointment with Mr. Ledger, the police said. The masseuse was let in to the home by a housekeeper, who then knocked on the door of Mr. Ledger’s bedroom. When no one answered, the housekeeper and the masseuse opened the bedroom and found Mr. Ledger unconscious. They shook him, but he did not respond. They immediately called the authorities.
The police said they did not suspect foul play. Officials said pills were found near the body.

There were six different types of prescription drugs in the room, including pills to treat insomnia and anxiety, and an antihistamine, according to two law enforcement officials who spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation is ongoing.

It also says a lot about the confidence that he holds within himself as an individual. Thank goodness I have a male assistant – otherwise Ashton would have gone from being a single guy with a male roommate to being overloaded.”

As for her daughters, Demi says she’s had to trust them to be wise in the Hollywood context. “It’s hard to say no to curious teenagers when exciting events or things are happening. You can’t live in a bubble. A key thing, and I’ve said this before, is to try to help your children be good decision makers.”

LOS ANGELES — Robert Goulet, the handsome, big-voiced baritone whose Broadway debut in "Camelot" launched an award-winning stage and recording career, has died. He was 73.

The singer died Tuesday morning in a Los Angeles hospital while awaiting a lung transplant, said Goulet spokesman Norm Johnson.
He had been awaiting a lung transplant at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles after being found last month to have a rare form of pulmonary fibrosis.

Goulet had remained in good spirits even as he waited for the transplant, said Vera Goulet, his wife of 25 years.

"Just watch my vocal cords," she said he told doctors before they inserted a breathing tube.

The Massachusetts-born Goulet, who spent much of his youth in Canada, gained stardom in 1960 with "Camelot," the Lerner and Loewe musical that starred Richard Burton as King Arthur and Julie Andrews as his Queen Guenevere.

Goulet played Sir Lancelot, the arrogant French knight who falls in love with Guenevere.

He became a hit with American TV viewers with appearances on "The Ed Sullivan Show" and other programs. Sullivan labeled him the "American baritone from Canada," where he had already been a popular star in the 1950s, hosting his own TV show called "General Electric's Showtime."

The Los Angeles Times wrote in 1963 that Goulet "is popping up in specials so often these days that you almost feel he has a weekly show. The handsome lad is about the hottest item in show business since his Broadway debut."

Goulet won a Grammy Award in 1962 as best new artist and made the singles chart in 1964 with "My Love Forgive Me."

"When I'm using a microphone or doing recordings I try to concentrate on the emotional content of the song and to forget about the voice itself," he told The New York Times in 1962.
His first two marriages ended in divorce. He had a daughter with his first wife, Louise Longmore, and two sons with his second wife, Carol Lawrence, the actress and singer who played Maria in the original Broadway production of "West Side Story."

After their breakup, she portrayed him unflatteringly in a book. "There's a fine line between love and hate," he responded in a New York Times interview. "She went on every talk show interview and cut me to shreds, and I've never done anything like that, and I won't."

Several law enforcement officials have confirmed that a Seattle grand jury is investigating the accusations that David Copperfield sexually assaulted an aspiring 21-year-old model. The Seattle Times pretty much confirms earlier reports from The National Enquirer and provides info on how the magician first met his alleged victim while at a show with her family:

They were led to special seats, and Copperfield selected the woman to come on stage as part of his act, the federal sources said.
Sources confirmed that the woman told investigators Copperfield later promised he could help with her modeling career and invited her to his isolated $50 million private retreat at Musha Cay, in a tiny string of white-sand islands 85 miles southeast of Nassau, Bahamas. From Nassau, the retreat is accessible only by charter plane and then private boat.

David Copperfield told the woman there’d be other guests on the island, but when she arrived, it was just her and the magician:

Paris Hilton is set to journey to Rwanda on a charity mission with the Playing for Good organization, and as it is always the case, cameras will be following her. Paris’ five-day trek to the African country, where she will visit clinics and schools, will be filmed with the hopes of selling it as a reality show titled The Philanthropist.

Paris chimed in with her thoughts on the show:
